(flashback to Morales beating a man to death)

Hill: Prisoner number 00M87, Enrique Morales. Convicted April 6, 2000. Murder in the second degree. Sentence: 25 years, up for parole in 15.

[Computer Room]

Pancamo: Hernandez, Adebisi, and me have been partners selling tits.

Morales: This I know.

Pancamo: Hernandez is having some kind of nervous breakdown.

Morales: This I also know.

Pancamo: We don’t want a partner who is loco. You come with ‘cred. So, we’re offering you Hernandez’s third.

Morales: If I waste him?

Pancamo: Yes, do it quietly. And soon.

---

[Rebadow Pod]

Morales: May I come in?

Rebadow: Well.

Morales: I won’t hurt you, sir, sit. I’m not like Hernandez or Guerra. They’re spics. Old school thugs. Me, I’m a business man. I like Armani suits, I surf the ‘net.

Rebadow: Really.

Morales: I have a proposition for you.

Rebadow: Really.

Morales: Raoul Hernandez must be killed, but he’s so paranoid he won’t let anybody near him. I need the person he would suspect the least to finish him off. And that, Mr. Rebadow, is you.

Rebadow: Me, I can’t kill anyone.

Morales: You did once before, and that’s why you're here.

Rebadow: No, I won’t do it.

Morales: Well, you see, sir, this really isn’t a multiple choice. You kill him, or I kill you. It’s that simple.

Rebadow: I can go into protective custody.

Morales: For the rest of your life? It’s pretty lonely up there, I would hate to think of you spending your twilight years mumbling to yourself.

Rebadow: But, if I kill Hernandez, I go to solitary, or death row.

Morales: No, no, no, no. Here’s the beauty part. We get you moved into Hernandez’s cell. I’ll handle the arrangements. And in the middle of the night, you stick him in the neck, just like you did that guy 35 years ago. You yell for help, and say that Hernandez was attacking you.

Rebadow: And I killed him in self defense.

Morales: Exactly. Such a sweet old fella, who’s gonna doubt your word. So, do we have a deal?

Rebadow: What do I get in return?

Morales: Anything you want.

Rebadow: Okay, I’ll kill him.

---

[Murphy’s office]

Morales: I’ve known Raoul Hernandez for many years, and he’s changed. And not for the better.

Murphy: Sure is quieter lately.

Morales: He’s edgy, dangerous.

Murphy: And you suggest?

Morales: He needs a calming influence. Someone like, say...Rebadow.

---

[Gym]

Adebisi: Where is he?

Morales: He’s coming.

Adebisi: I don’t like Jamaicans.

Pancamo: You don’t like anybody. So far, you check out.

Adebisi: There are a few more steps you gotta take before you can gain our friendship.

Morales: You could be an undercover cocksucker. But undercover cocksuckers aren't allowed to use drugs. And we know you’ve been buying a lot of product, but, no one's ever seen you use the stuff.

(Morales lays down lines of heroin on the floor)

Pancamo: Enjoy.

Adebisi: We want to see it go up your nose.

(Mobay does half a line)

Morales: More.

(Mobay does the rest of the line.)

---

[Gym]

Mobay: We going to box?

Morales: We want to see if you can take a punch.

Adebisi: Or two.

Mobay: You got a problem with me, man?

Adebisi: Yeah, you're weak.

Mobay: Give me gloves.

Pancamo: Well, actually, we're not gonna spar.

Mobay: No?

Pancamo: No. I'm gonna use you for a heavy bag.

Morales: And the rest of us bet on how long you stay standing.

Adebisi: Ready?

Mobay: Yeah.

Morales: Ding, ding.

(Pancamo hits him.)

Morales: 15 seconds. I win. Pay up.

---

[Pancamo's pod]

Mobay: You wanted to see me?

Morales: We just took a straw poll on you.

Pancamo: I voted yes.

Adebisi: I voted no.

Morales: I abstained.

Pancamo: A tie.

Mobay: How do I break this tie?

Adebisi: There's a final test.

Mobay: Which is?

Adebisi: You gotta kill somebody.

Mobay: Who?

Morales: Anybody. We don't care.

Mobay: Alright, I'll do it.

---

[Em City. Adebisi's pod.]

Pancamo: That's it, no violence?

Adebisi: Yup. He just want me to make sure that everybody obeys all the rules all the time.

Morales: This could be a trick.

Pancamo: Yeah.

Adebisi: I don't think so.

Pancamo: Like the way things were back in the old days. We Sicilians control our own streets, so the cops backed away. Little Italy was the safest place in the city.

Adebisi: Look, I vote yes.

Pancamo: Me too.

Morales. Alright.

---

[Em City.]

Murphy: Lockdown! Lockdown!

Morales: What the fuck happened?

Mobay: Someone died. An accident, far from Emerald City.

---

(Rebadow walks past and enters the computer room.)

Rebadow: Mr. Morales?

Guerra: Whoa, slow down there, Rebadow.

Rebadow: I want to talk to you.

Morales: Let him be, Chico. What do you need?

Rebadow: When I agreed to kill Hernandez, you said in return I could have anything I wanted.

Morales: True. And now you want me to repay the debt?

Rebadow: Yes.

Morales: Okay. What can I do for you?

Rebadow: I want you to let me kill someone else.

---

[Em City. Quad.]

Rebadow: Mr. Morales.

Morales: Mr. Rebadow.

Rebadow: My request. You said you needed time to think it over.

Morales: Ah, yes.

Rebadow: Well? When you asked me to kill Raoul Hernandez, you said I could have anything I wanted in return.

Morales: And now you want me to let you kill someone else?

Rebadow: Yes.

Morales: Oddly enough, there's no one I need exterminated at the present time. Besides, as a newly appointed trustee I have promised Querns that there will be no violence in Emerald City.

Rebadow: You're going against your word.

Morales: Ask for something else. Cigarettes, money, drugs.

Rebadow: I want to kill somebody.

Morales: If you have your heart set on it, why do you need my permission?

Rebadow: Not permission, protection.

Morales: That you can have.

Rebadow: No matter who I kill?

Morales: You aren't gonna do anything crazy, are you? Like waste Pancamo?

Rebadow: Certainly not.

Morales: Then, who are you gonna kill?

Rebadow: Who, indeed?

---

(A CO leads Rebadow to his pod.)

Morales: You feel better now?

---

[Em City. Classroom.]

Poet: Y'all wanted to see me?

Pancamo: Yeah, Adebisi's got a bug up his ass about your friend, Mobay.

Adebisi: I don't like him.

Morales: Mobay's filled his quota. He's brought us five new customers. Leave him the fuck alone.

Adebisi: Which customers? Look, Tidd and Browne, they give us the name of their new babies. Mobay, only knows them by face.

Allah: You actually seen him sell tits to anybody?

Poet: No, no.

Pancamo: We got the cash, who cares?

Allah: He could be undercover.

Pancamo: With the amount of shit he shoves up his nose, no fucking chance.

Adebisi: Look, the next time he sells, I want you by his side. By his side!

Poet: Alright. You got it.

Morales: This hand sucks, man.

---

(Pancamo and Morales approach outside. They knock and Adebisi comes out.)

Adebisi: Hello, boys.

Pancamo: We gotta talk.

Adebisi: So talk.

Morales: What the fuck are you doing? We're your partners. You think you're gonna fuck us over and we're just gonna take it up the ass?

Adebisi: Morales, nobody wants your ass.

Pancamo: Johnson hits me with his fucking stick, throws Zanghi in the hole. That ain't the fucking deal, Adebisi.

Morales: Besides, it's been 10 days since we've seen any green. You pocketing the profits?

Adebisi: No, there's plenty of profits. But, there's been a change in the organization.

Morales: How so?

Adebisi: Well, you know, we three were partners, and now we're not.

Morales: What?

Adebisi: I don't need you boys anymore.

Morales: You lookin' to start a war?

Adebisi: Now, if there was a war, you'd lose. Look around. See all these faces? They match mine. No, boys, there won't be any war.

Pancamo: And why the fuck not?

Adebisi: Because you and your pal are about to take a little holiday over to Unit B.

Morales: What? When?

Adebisi: Oh, look. I would say now.

CO: Come on.

Adebisi: Hey, I'm gonna miss you.

Pancamo: Yeah.

Adebisi: Say "hi" to Schillinger for me, huh?

---

Pancamo: It's a goatee, you stupid fuck.

Morales: Come on, just say it, just say, goatee.

---

[Morales-Guerra pod.]

Morales: I've gotta think of some good shit to tell this jamoke. He's only gonna use the best stuff.

Guerra: You're gonna make shit up?

Morales: Well, I can't tell him the truth, can I? But I want to be on camera. Can't let these matinee-idol looks go to waste.

(Guerra laughs. Morales hits him in the back through the mattress.)

Morales: Callate.

Guerra: Ay, yi yi.

Morales: Pendejo.

---

[Em City. Quad.]

TV announcer: Miguel Alvarez, a fugitive from the Oswald State Correctional Facility for the past six months, has been captured. Customs agents near (city) Arizona found Alvarez late last night as he tried to cross the border into Mexico. In other news -

Guerra: Alvarez is coming back.

Morales: So?

Guerra: The motherfucker tried to kill me.

Morales: Yeah, only because you tried to kill him. Or did I get the story wrong? You let it go, Chico.

---

(The prisoners are watching tv.)

Beecher: What's this?

Morales: James Devlin is about to get inaugurated for his second term as governor.

---

[Classroom.]

Morales: We got a nice operation going.

Pancamo: And we don't need you fucking things up.

Morales: Chucky, relax. Now we value your friendship. We'd even be willing to cut you a slice.

Redding: You're extremely generous. I'll get back to you. (he gets up to leave)

Morales: Back to us?

Pancamo: You take the deal now, or there is no fucking deal.

Murphy: Pancamo, Morales, I told you dinks before this classroom was for classes, not your board of directors meetings. Come on, let's go. Let's go, move it! What are you waiting for, an engraved invitation there, Redding? Come on!

---

Pancamo: Hey, guys, this is my table.

Yixue: You say, what?

Pancamo: This is my table. Get your chink asses up and -

Yixue: Oh, hey, no, no, no, stop. We sorry. (He instructs the others to stand.)

Morales: (to Chucky) That's no way to treat these poor fellows. (to Yixue) You their leader?

Yixue: Uh, no.

Morales: But they listen to you.

Yixue: Yes.

Morales: That makes you their leader. You come and see me, we'll talk.

---

[Em City. Morales' pod.]

Yixue: Zhuxi.

Morales: Zhuxi. What does that mean?

Yixue: Um, "Chairman", like Mao.

Morales: (laughs) I love that. Zhuxi Morales.

Yixue: In fact, it would be "Morales Zhuxi". The family name is always first.

Morales: See, now, that's what's fucked up about your side of the world. The names, the way you read, the funny alphabet. I mean, you people do everything backwards.

Yixue: Or, you people do.

Morales: Right. Mr. Bian, the reason I asked to see you, is because I want to warn you. You see that man over there? (points to Redding)

Yixue: Yes.

Morales: Burr Redding is your enemy. He hates you and all your friends.

Yixue: Why? We have done nothing to him.

Morales: Well, he served in Vietnam.

Yixue: We are Chinese.

Morales: He don't know the difference. All he sees is your yellow skin. And he has vowed to kill each and every one of you.

Yixue: I will go to him. I will reason with him.

Morales: Does he look like a reasonable man? You must kill him. Not you, necessarily, but one of your men.

Yixue: We are simple folk, farmer, factory worker. We left China to escape the killers, not to become one.

Morales: Then from now on, I will call you "hombre muerto."

Yixue: What is that?

Morales: Dead man.

---

[Phone room.]

Yixue: That's wonderful. Have you heard from Jiayu? Tell him that, that I love him, and Wanhua...I love you, too. Okay. (hangs up) (he goes out into Quad)

Gongjin: How does she sound?

Yixue: She misses me. She say Suying is bossing everyone around. (to Morales) Thank you for the phone call Zhuxi.

Morales: It's the least I can do.

Murphy: Work detail!

Yixue: What, what is that?

Morales: Oh, we all have jobs to do.

Yixue: Oh, I, I would like to work.

Morales: Yeah?

Yixue: I would. I, I want to do my part.

Morales: Okay. Let me go talk to some people.

Yixue: Okay.

[Storage Room.]

(Yixue is working. Morales and several latinos enter.)

Morales: What's going on, Lucy?

Yixue: Yixue.

Morales: Yixue. Sorry. Not that I'll need to know how to pronounce your name for much longer. (the men grab Yixue)

Yixue: What is going on?

Morales: Well, you see, Yixue, you've done everything I've needed you to do, and I'm grateful. There's just one last thing I must ask of you.

Yixue: Wha-what's that?

Morales: To die.

Yixue: My wife. My son.

Morales: They will mourn you forever.

---

[Em City. Quad.]

Redding: Thanks for arranging my stay in the cage. I ain't gonna forget it.

Pancamo: So much for fucking plan "A".

Morales: And that's why they call it plan "A", Chucky. 'Cause there's still a plan "B," "C," "D," all the way to fucking "Z" if we need it.

Pancamo: We ain't got time to go through the whole fucking alphabet. This cocksucker's gonna make a move on us, and soon.

---

[Computer Room.]

Morales: Miguel Alvarez. I was wondering when you'd come see me.

Alvarez: You know, a lot's happened since I escaped. Hernandez is dead.

Morales: And that makes you feel how?

Alvarez: Happy. I hated that fucking cocksucker.

Morales: Honesty. I like honesty. But I hear sometimes you're too honest.

Alvarez: Look, man, I don't give a fuck. You in charge now. That's all you, man. I just want back in. Tell me what I gotta do.

[They walk out to the quad.]

Morales: You see that man over there? Burr Redding?

Alvarez: Yeah.

Morales: Kill him.

---

Ryan: I loved Candace Bergen's tits, man.

Morales: The other girl was cute.

Guerra: Lily Tomlin?

---

[voiceover]

Morales: We don't like Burr Redding any more than you.

---

Morales: Peace.

Redding: It's a beautiful thing.

McManus: Yeah, shake hands where everybody can see it.

---

[Gym]

Pancamo: Supreme Allah. I heard you were dead.

Allah: You know, that's funny, I heard the same thing about you. Guess you can't believe rumours. Like the one that says you fools signed a treaty with Burr Redding.

Morales: What would you have done?

Allah: I'll tell you what I will do. That nigga's going down.

Pancamo: We been trying to airhole that motherfucker since he got here. No success.

Morales: Besides, if he dies now the hacks'll be all over us.

Allah: Yeah, not if he gets greased by one of his own.

Morales: Who you got in mind?

Allah: Him. [points to Hill]

---

[Ryan points out Connolly to Cyril]

Morales: Who's he?

Pancamo: Padraic Connolly. That's all we need in this place, another dumb fuckin' spud-eating Mick.

[They laugh]

---

[Em City. Quad]

O'Reily: Hey, Vahue. [goes to give him high-five then withdraws his hand] Nah, not.

Pancamo: Fuckin' let us down, Vahue.

Morales: Had a lot of money bet on that game, cocksucker.

---

[Em City. Laundry Room]

Morales: There he goes now, the luckiest man on the planet.

McManus: Lucky?

Morales: Correction: formerly lucky. The word's out, McManus. That scout today came to scoop up your boy. He's on his way to the Kings.

McManus: Mm-hmm.

Morales: Without Brass, you're gonna look pretty fuckin' foolish. I bet you lose by 50, 60 points.

McManus: Well, who says I'm without him?

---

[Gym]

Morales: Hey, Martinez.

Martinez: Hey, hey. Hola, mi hermano.

Morales: The warden still got you over at Unit B?

Martinez: Yeah.

Morales: Excellent. I need an ask.

Martinez: An ask?

Morales: They said...[whispers to Martinez]

---

[Em City, Morales Pod]

Guerra: You having any visitors come in today?

Morales: Yeah. My sister Annette.

Guerra: Nice.

Morales: Yeah. She's a great gal. I love her to death. She's always been there for me when I needed her. I mean she's also a bit of a head case but...

---

[Gym]

Morales: Hey Miguel. You are one lucky fuck.

Alvarez: Yeah. That's me you know. I'm Mr. Lucky.

Morales: You know, Guerra wants you dead. But I could yank him off your ass.

Alvarez: Oh yeah? If I do what huh? If I kill somebody for you? Those days are gone chica. Those days are long gone. See I got no interest in sniffing the butt hole.

Morales: You won't survive solo. You ain't got the balls.

Alvarez: Ain't got what?

Morales: Balls. Cahones, pendejo. That's what I'm saying.

Alvarez: Oh, right right right. You see this? (points to the scar on his face) I did that.

Morales: Yeah?

Alvarez: Yeah. I cut my own face. You know what I'm saying? I shoved a shank in Rivera's eyes. You know what I'm saying? I slit Vasquez's throat. You know what I'm saying? I handle a knife better then a fucking surgeon. I got nothing to prove to you brother. Nothing. Come on! Get the fuck out of my face!

---

[Guerra Pod]

Guerra: What that loco motherfucker don't know, is I am going to kill him. After he's down, I slip a shank in his hand and its self defense.

Morales: Fuck.

Guerra: What's the matter?

Morales: My sister's dead. And ever since the news I've felt nothing. And now you tell me your going to kill Alvarez and I feel this little charge in my belly. Jesus what the hell is that?

Guerra: It's nothing.

Morales: My little sister worshiped me. You can't kill Alvarez.

Guerra: What?

Morales: I haven't shed a tear for a sister who thought that much of me, and at the same time this Alvarez thing is revving me up. It's not right. There's something wrong. And out of respect for Annette I got to take a look at that. We both do.

Guerra: What's happening is you're on a delayed reaction. You're still in shock. In a week you'll be crying like a baby over your sister. Thing is, we don't got a week. Our best chance to kill Alvarez is here. Right now.

Morales: Chico.

---

[Em City]

Alvarez: We got to talk.

Guerra: Oh, you want me to shank you again? Okay.

Alvarez: Can I sit down?

Inmate: Blow me.

Morales: Get up. Have a seat.

Guerra: So?

Alvarez: You tried to kill me.

Guerra: No I didn't. You're alive ain't you? That was our deal.

Alvarez: You were supposed to stab me in the shoulder man. Blade went in a quarter of an inch from my heart.

Guerra: Must have fucking moved chocha. What can I say?

Alvarez: You ain't got to say nothing. I just want you to know that I know the truth man. I'm going to honor our agreement. I didn't die, I ain't going to retaliate.

Morales: Backing off. A wise move Miguel. Listen to me carefully. I'm never going to welcome you back to El Norte. But what I will do, is guarantee that we'll leave you be.

Guerra: What the fuck are you talking about?

Morales: All scores are settled.

---

Brass: Step over here Morales.

Morales: Okay.

Brass: You know who I am?

Morales: Dave Brass, the basketballer. You played with McManus against Vahue in those games. Pretty good for a white boy.

Brass: Who cut my Achilles tendon?

Morales: I don't know.

Brass: Look. I don't care whose idea it was. All I want is the guy who actually did the deed.

Morales: I wish I could help you out.

Brass: You lying piece of shit. You're going to regret that you didn't.

Morales: You know, you had the sweetest crossover dribble I've ever seen. Jerking right, then planting that foot, then going left, I don't know how many times you dressed down Vahue with that move. But you know what they say.You take away a basketball Gods first step, and all you got is a CO with a broken wheel.

---

[Classroom]

Redding: The older I get the more I realize that my appetites are merely habits. I don't crave power anymore. I just want it because I always had it. When I first arrived here at Emerald City you made me a very generous offer to share the drug trade, but I ain't used to partners so I said no. Ever since then we been rattling sabers at each other with neither one of us gaining much ground.

Morales: I'm beginning to think you don't know how to die.

---

Alvarez: Get your hands off the dog.

Kenmin: I'm kidding.

Alvarez: I don't care, get your hands off my fucking dog.

Morales: Do what he says Jia.

Kenmin: Someday, Morales. Someday.

Alvarez: Are you protecting me now?

Morales: No, I just hate that yellow scum fuck. And I've got a question to ask. You've been tight with Mukada right?

Alvarez: Yeah, on and off.

Morales: I was wondering something.

Alvarez: What?

Morales: Where the fuck's his office?

[Mukada's office]

Mukada: Open. Enrique...What a surprise.

Morales: Yeah, you're telling me. Nice digs.

Mukada: So?

Morales: I fried a guy once. That's why I'm here. I chucked his useless ass into a transformer. Now, he begged me not to kill him I mean, that's what put me over the edge, the begging.

Mukada: So, now you're feeling guilty about this.

Morales: Fuck, no. I'm thinking, I was the last guy to hear this jag's voice. I own his last words.

Mukada: I'm not following.

Morales: I got a feeling you own my sisters. And I want them.

Mukada: Oh, well, yes, we did have a chat shortly before the bus crashed, and she said that she loves you very much and that she was very excited about seeing you.

Morales: And I couldn't wait to see her. I mean, her smiling face. She was the spitting image of our mother. Now you got to tell me father, did Annette at least die happy?

Mukada: She seemed to be in very good spirits, except for the problems that she was having in her marriage.

Morales: Oh, wait, she was having problems?

Mukada: Yeah, you didn't know about that?

Morales: No, what kind of problems?

Mukada: Well, I'm not sure of the specifics. I...Maybe you better ask her husband.

Morales: Yeah. Yeah, I'm going to do just that.

[Visiting Room]

Osorio: Damn, you look nicer in here then you did out.

Morales: At least you still look like shit.

Osorio: It's been a tough time, planning the funeral and all.

Morales: Yeah. Well, how you doing about Annette?

Osorio: Okay, I guess. I mean, me and her, we was--

Morales: Hey, hey, hey. I know. She was a cunt.

Osorio: Man, you don't know how happy I am to hear you say that, Enrique. I mean, I didn't want to come down here and lie to you about Annette. I mean, all of a sudden she wanted to be this model right? She was walking around South Beach and she's shoving her tits in the face of every agent and photographer in town.

Morales: If she was spreading it around you got to set her straight.

Osorio: She kept wearing these skimpy tops no bigger than fucking rubber bands. You know what I did?

Morales: What?

Osorio: I cut a fucking chunk out of her arm. Believe me, the bitch wore sleeves from then on.

Morales: That put her right?

Osorio: Fuck, no. The girl would spread her legs for anything that moved and sometimes for things that didn't. I mean, I don't like to disrespect the dead, Enrique--

Morales: Hey, you know what, Javier? You never will again.

[Morales slams Osorio's head into the table]

Morales: My sister was a saint, you motherfucker! Son of a bitch! Fucker!

Hack: Let him go!

Morales: Motherfucker!

Hack: Let him go!

Morales: You cocksucker!

[Morales is put in the hole]

---

[Gym]

Morales: Hey, toss the ball. Now toss the fucking ball.

Kenmin: This is about the size of your head, Morales.

---

[Morales Pod]

Ryan: Glen Shupe.

Morales: What about him?

Ryan: I need that cocksucker to have an accident.

Guerra: How severe?

Ryan: Not dead, just diminished. And it can't be traced back to me.

Morales: What do I get in return?

Ryan: Jia Kenmin dies, and it can't be traced back to you.

Morales: Deal.

---

[Classroom]

Redding: Morales, did Guerra give Augustus those drugs?

Morales: No.

Redding: You lying.

Morales: Know what, Redding? You and me, since we made peace, we've had a good thing going. Don't blow it by being an asshole.

Redding: Motherfucker. Who the fuck you think you're calling an asshole?

Morales: What the fuck do you think you're doing?

[Redding attacks Morales]

[Redding and Morales are put in the hole]

---

[Redding and Morales get out of the hole]

[McManus's office]

McManus: So, I was sitting in my office, watching the two of you when the fight broke out. Now, I'm not naive enough to think that you're going to tell me what the argument was about. And you're not naive enough to think I'm going to let it go. So, in order for me not to send both your asses to Gen pop, we're going to agree, once again, no violence between you.

Morales: I agree.

McManus: Redding?

Redding: Sure.

McManus: That was a little less then enthusiastic, but okay. You can go. So, it was Morales that gave Augustus the drugs, right? Morales, or one of his stooges, am I right?

Redding: Gospel truth, I don't know. I thought it was the spics, but maybe I was wrong.

McManus: Then who?

Redding: Well, like I said before, Augustus will give it to me straight. You should've let me talk to him in the first place.

[Em City]

Urbano: Isn't that touching?

Morales: Look, I know I didn't do right by you guys, siding with that nigger, muscling you out of the tit trade. I'm sorry, okay?

Seggio: Sorry? You think sorry's going to be enough?

Urbano: Mario, please. I think you'll find that we Sicilians are misunderstood, that at heart...We can be very forgiving people.

Morales: Oh, yeah? And what's that forgiveness going to cost?

Urbano: Redding's 50%, 10 of yours.

Guerra: That's bullshit.

Morales: Chico. Okay. One condition, though. You kill Redding.

Urbano: My pleasure.

---

[Computer room]

Pancamo: Hey Baba.

Morales: Welcome back, Chucky. You look good, all healthy and shit.

Pancamo: I guess I was pretty close to death, but Dr. Nathan, she pulled me through. What's the latest?

Morales: The tits are flowing free and easy, especially now that the niggers are out of the game. Augustus Hill's death really shattered them.

Pancamo: Redding too?

Morales: I don't understand the man. Franky Urbano goes to stab Redding, kills Hill, but Redding hasn't even tried to retaliate.

Guerra: Redding's plotting something. That's for sure.

Morales: Yeah, but what?

---

[Guerra/Morales pod]

Morales: I saw you and Alvarez making nice. Were you serious?

Guerra: The truth? I don't know. I've hated his guts for so many years, now I can't even remember why. And today, I almost got my throat cut. That started me thinking. Enrique, you ever feel like you've lost your appetite for all of the bullshit?

Morales: Yeah. When my sister died in that bus accident.

Guerra: That's right. You were talking peace and patience back then. What happened?

Morales: Oz. Oz is what happened. Fucking Oz.

[Morales nods at Alvarez]

---

Ms Sally: And jump it out, and work those legs...

Morales: Officer Murphy, I got an ask.

Murphy: I'm in no mood to be tender, Morales.

Morales: I want to shift jobs. I've been working at mechanics since I got to Oz, I need a change.

Murphy: To where?

Morales: I'm thinking hospital. I got a couple pals who are orderlies, I thought maybe I could do some good.

Murphy: Some good for yourself, you mean. What do you think, I'm an idiot? Your pal Martinez is in the ward recuperating from something he caught in solitary.

Morales: Carlos is in the hospital? I didn't know that.

Murphy: I made it a priority of mine to keep you and Martinez as far away from each other as possible. That is, until Martinez admits that you ordered him to attack Dave Brass.

Morales: That old song of yours again?

Murphy: Yeah, and when he does that, you're going down. Morales. Down, down, down to the lowest pit with no bottom.

Morales: Fine. I'll just ask McManus for the transfer.

Murphy: Yeah, you go do that.

Morales: Yeah.

Murphy: Yeah.

Morales: Bye.

Murphy: Bye.

[Morales/Guerra pod]

Morales: What if Martinez jabbers on me?

Guerra: He hasn't yet, he never will.

Morales: Now and never is not the same thing, Chico. Being in solitary can wear a man down, and if Carlos is sick, the hacks are withholding medicine until he turns.

Guerra: What could we do?

Morales: Kill him.

Guerra: Enrique, no, he's one of us.

Morales: Yeah, but for how long?

---

[Cafeteria]

Morales: Man, I wish to Christ I could figure out what Redding is up to.

Guerra: Rumor is, he's walking away from the kitchen, that he's gonna be foreman of the telemarketing business.

Morales: That don't mean he'll stop slinging. And what we need is more information. Alvarez, join us.

Alvarez: You want me to sit with you?

Morales: Yeah, I figure, you and Guerra made peace you won't be stabbing each other with the silverware. Besides, I got a question.

Alvarez: Nine inches, baby.

Morales: You friendly with any of the niggers?

Alvarez: No. Poet a little bit, maybe.

Morales: Yeah, he knows you and us have been at war. I want you to talk to him, find out what Redding's real plans are.

Alvarez: Spy.

Morales: Well, yeah.

Alvarez: I ain't hungry anymore.

Morales: Do this, Miguel, we'll welcome you back into El Norte.

Alvarez: You know, I'm--I'm glad me and Chico aren't at each other's throats anymore, but that's as far as it goes, man. I got my parole in three years. Until that point, I'm Mahatma-fucking-Gandhi. You want the peach cobbler?

---

[Morales/Guerra pod]

Morales: Is it done?

Guerra: No. I talked to Martinez, he's not gonna jabber on you.

Morales: I told you to kill him. That was an order.

Guerra: He's a compadre. You want him whacked? Do the deed yourself.

Morales: I will. And I won't fuckin' forget this.

---

[Solitary]

Morales: Take the cuffs off. What the fuck do you want? What is this?

Brass: Half-Time entertainment.

White: Yo, Penders, you think Morales is going to get his farm foreclosed?

Penders: Shh, shh, shh.

Brass: Martinez cut me right here, ruined my chances of ever playing pro ball, and I have this limp. So, you see, Enrique, if I only cut the one, you'll limp like I do. But if I cut them both, you'll walk fine.

[Brass cuts both Morales' ankles]

---

[Hospital]

Guerra: Enrique, I heard about what happened.

Morales: Get away from me, you Judas.

Guerra: Hey, I'm no Judas.

Morales: Did you kill Martinez? Did anybody in El Norte kill Martinez?

Guerra: No.

Morales: Then move the fuck away from me. Muevete!

Grace: Everything okay here?

Morales: Can I have some juice?

Grace: Too bad about your friend Martinez. But he was a nasty man. He deserved to die.

---

[Hospital]

Grace: Put it into your mouth.

Glynn: Morales. I'm releasing you from solitary, permanently, putting you back in Emerald City.

Morales: Why?

Glynn: I don't need to give you a reason, do I? That might make me think twice.

Morales: All right, forget the why. Hey, Warden, what do you know about Nurse Grace?

Glynn: Know about her? Nothing, except she's worked here for years.

Morales: If I were you, I'd check her background.

Glynn: What, she's medically incompetent?

Morales: I'm afraid.

Glynn: Afraid? You? Of her?

Morales: Yeah.

Glynn: Must be the medication you're on.

---

[Hospital. Night.]

Grace: Morales? Morales, I'm sorry to disturb you. That sedative I gave you was pretty strong, huh?

Morales: Yeah.

Grace: It's a precaution. You're a big fella. I didn't want a struggle.

Morales: Struggle?

Grace: Martinez was so weak, he couldn't fight me, but you...Say your prayers, Enrique.

Morales: No, don't.

Grace: You're just like Martinez, a nasty man who deserves to die.
